Mahesh Babu's "Srimanthudu" has done superb collection at the US box office in its first weekend and topped the business chart by beating Bollywood movies like "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Drishyam".
Mahesh Babu is the most popular Telugu actor in the United States and most of his movies have become big money spinners in the country. His latest outing "Srimanthudu" is not an exception as the movie received a fantastic opening and made record-breaking collection over the weekend.
Distributors Sunil Pantra, Vamsi Karumanchi, Kiran Duggirala and Shiva Polavarapu, who were aware of Mahesh Babu's popularilty in the US, held premiere shows of "Srimanthudu" at 117 locations. The movie, which witnessed huge amount of advance bookings, opened to an earth-shattering response in the paid preview shows and collected approximately $532,000 on Thursday.
The strong word-of-mouth set the momentum for "Srimanthudu", which received overwhelming response on Friday. The movie showed decent growth on Saturday and Sunday. The film has collected $2,062,768 (Rs 13.17 crore) from 157 screens at the US box office in the first weekend.
"Srimanthudu" has topped the business chart in the US, while "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Drishyam" have landed in the second and third places with their collection $218,783 from 257 screens and $102,214 from 44 screens, respectively, in the country.
